I am at an outdoor production of "An Ideal Husband" by Oscar Wilde and have a little time to kill beforethe show begins. I thought I might write briefly about Superman's return to multiplexes around the globe.

The movie is perhaps the most remarkable accomplishment I have seen in a long time. It is an elegant continuation of the first 2 Superman movies from the 70s. The score, the pace, even the effects remind me of those films. Routh and Spacey sub for Reeves
and Hackman brilliantly - playing the same characters we loved so long ago.

Their comic book counterparts have not had as easy a time of it. Superman has been re-invented, killed, and reborn. Luthor has gone from muscle-bound bad-guy to US president. Bryan Singer chose none of these paths, instead updating the Lois and Superman's relationship for today's sensibilities, while questioning Superman's place in the world.

I had the feeling that I was watching a movie I would be watching many more times. I hope Warner Brothers have secured a deal to bring Bryan Singer back for another installment.
